Listed are all general music ministry responsibilities that we hope to fill with as few staff positions as possible.*
Chancel Choir Director
This responsibility is to the leadership of the church’s song in traditional worship. This will include developing, nurturing, and scheduling music opportunities from the talents and abilities in the congregation, as well as leading the chancel choir to lead and lift up the congregation’s song for the praise of God. This leadership position ensures quality worship and music by seeking to engage all people in meaningful and grace-oriented worship.
Praise Band and Contemporary Worship Leader
This responsibility is to the leadership of the church’s song in contemporary worship. This will include developing, nurturing, and scheduling music opportunities from the talents and abilities in the congregation, as well as leading the praise band. This leadership position ensures quality worship and music by seeking to engage all people in meaningful and grace-oriented worship.
Organist / Collaborative Artist
This responsibility is to leadership of the worshiping congregation’s song as organist (or in some cases, pianist), preparing hearts for worship and service through preludes and postludes, and contemplative opportunities in worship through accompanying the chancel choir, children’s choir, and other special music contributions.
Director of Music and Worship
* This responsibility should be paired with at least one of the above ministry positions.
The director is responsible for providing oversight to music staff and the budget. The director coordinates staff and volunteer music leadership provided at each worship opportunity (traditional and contemporary) at Zion. The director will also work with the pastors to provide leadership to the worship planning team to plan overall worship themes, and connect those themes with the work of volunteer music leaders, creative arts contributors, and other worship-related groups.
* Compensation may range from $10,000-45,000, depending on the responsibilities included upon hiring and the candidate’s experience. All ministry positions must be filled.
** While high musical skills, leadership, and quality are necessary for these ministry positions, music ministry at Zion is regarded as building and nurturing the worship and praise of the people, and not performance.
