At Zion, we equate “membership” with “discipleship.” Because Zion is a caring and loving community and we live out an expression of grace as best we can, members receive no extra benefits that anyone else does not receive. However, after people have participated in the life of the Zion community long enough, they often feel the urge to make a different kind of commitment to the mission and ministry of Zion by joining as a member.
Membership discovery classes are typically offered twice a year, in the fall and spring. In those classes, we give participants an opportunity to explore more fully the character of Zion and uncover their own spiritual gifts so that they can find the best places to add their gifts to the ministry of Zion and feel the reward of giving. We also explore what is unique about Lutheran theology and life from other Christian expressions, including how Lutherans read and interpret the Bible, and how we view and live into God’s radical grace.
