“Hope is the thing with feathers–That perches in the soul–And
sings the tune without the words–And never stops–at all–” –from “‘Hope’ is the thing with
feathers” by Emily Dickinson
There’s a very old monastic tradition of reading through the entire book of Psalms in a week,
from Psalm 1 to Psalm 150, and starting over again at Psalm 1. This would be done in times of
worship with the entire community, and I imagine it has a few noteworthy benefits.
What do you think about when you hear “the good life?” Most people associate the good life
with social status, wealth, or even fame. I have seen posters or memes that picture the good life
as a large house with beautiful cars, or a lifestyle of relaxing on a beach. But Jesus gives us a
completely different picture of the good life. The Sermon on the Mount, found in Matthew 5-7, is
where we most fully hear about Jesus’ thoughts on the good life.
The mission of Zion Lutheran Church is Together we share God's abundance to transform lives through the love of Jesus.
