God on the Move

Clindamycin does not reach significant levels in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) even with meningitis. If you must take your antibiotic with food, take it with a meal or snack where you do not also take exenatide. Periodic Nasal Examinations Periodic nasal examinations with visualization of the nasal mucosa, turbinates, septum and mucosal blood vessel status are recommended aquí. If it is almost time to put on your next patch, wait until then to apply a new patch and skip the one you missed.

Growing up, I attended a Catholic school that was run by nuns. Not the smack-your-knuckles-with-a-ruler kind of nuns, but kind, loving, and joyful nuns. Some of my classmates would joke that Sister Marie-Therese never sat down; she was always on the move.Newsletter FebMarApr 2019 WEB

Living the In Between

November 6, 2018 by Zion Lutheran Church Leave a Comment

We spend much of our lives in between. In between jobs, in between stages of life. There are good in-between times: waiting for a birth, or for a wedding day. There are also more difficult in-between times: waiting for a diagnosis, or for a job offer that does not seem to come. Even in those circumstances when the in-between times create excitement and good anticipation, the waiting can be difficult.

In September, our worship theme will focus on the New Testament book of James, which is the epistle reading for the Revised Common Lectionary (the set of prescribed readings for worship) for this season. Some think that James has a unique place in the Bible for its nononsense, practical, proverbial wisdom. Others follow Martin Luther’s lead, who thought that James was an “epistle of straw” because in his opinion, he thought people would take its writings and put together a straw (i.e., weak) foundation of works righteousness instead of a gospel of grace.

Embracing Our Identity

We identify ourselves in a lot of different ways: a parent, spouse, son or daughter, sibling, friend. We may identify ourselves by a career or a hobby—and of course, most personally, by a given name. Every organization, whether it’s a school, place of business, or church also is identified in different ways.

Foolish Love: Newsletter January, February, March 2018

January 30, 2018 by Zion Lutheran Church Leave a Comment

This year a remarkable thing happens in our calendar. This is no joke! This year, Ash Wednesday falls on Valentine’s Day and Easter Sunday falls on April Fools’ Day. This does not happen very often; the last time these dates coincided like this was 1945! In 1945, World War II ended. You could buy a house for about $4,500 (yes, only two zeros!). The most popular song was “Sentimental Journey” by Les Brown and Doris Day.

Beta-blockers, in combination with diuretics and ACE inhibitors, are utilized in human cardiovascular medicine for treatment of chronic, stable congestive heart failure related to left ventricular systolic dysfunction.

Advent is one of my favorite seasons of the church year. It is relatively short—just four weeks leading up to Christmas—but to me, this season seems the most real, reflective of what’s really going on in our lives as people of faith.

Blessed! August, September, October

July 26, 2017 by Zion Lutheran Church Leave a Comment

Blessed. In my opinion, people often use this word too casually. Beautiful, new house? New job or a pay raise? Children? What about the fact that you live in a great country and can celebrate freedom? If those are blessings, what is going on when you lose them? What is going on with your neighbor who wants those things so deeply, prays their entire life for them, sheds many tears, and yet still never gets what you take for granted as a blessing? Or, maybe more difficult, if you see these things as a blessing but one day wake up and find you have lost them, have you been cursed?

2017 marks a significant time in the life of the church. It was 500 years ago, in 1517, that Martin Luther posted 95 Theses (or reasons) to the castle church door in Wittenberg, Germany. These reasons explained where he thought that the church he loved so dearly had wandered from its purpose as the body of Christ in the world. It was that simple action that changed the church forever. As heirs of the Reformation, it is easy to take that heritage for granted.

A Light to Lead the Way: November, December, January Newsletter

November 14, 2016 by Zion Lutheran Church Leave a Comment

baptismal-candleAt baptism, all who are baptized receive a baptismal candle, lit from the large Paschal Candle, representing the light of Christ that shines in their lives. At Zion, we encourage everyone to celebrate their baptismal birthdays every year. This encouragement is not only for the newly baptized, but everyone of any age who has been baptized at any time. Just as we often celebrate birthdays, even more we should celebrate the day we were given a sign and a promise that God has claimed us, named us, and given us a light in Jesus to lead the way.

Sometimes with the way our culture celebrates Christmas, the meaning and importance connected to our lives can be lost or forgotten. For this reason, Christians have observed the season of Advent as a way to prepare for Christmas and to welcome the same Jesus, who is born into our hearts. This year, our Advent and Christmas celebrations focus on the light of Christ, “A Light to Lead the Way.” We anticipate the celebration of the birth of Jesus, just as we long for Jesus to come again to bring the kingdom of God in its fullness. As we do, we will hear God’s word from the prophets of old, who promise the light that leads the way of hope, love, joy, and peace. Jesus will come again to bring the light in its splendor. In the meantime you have that light already, even if only a dim specter of Christ’s light, because in baptism you are marked with the cross of Christ, sealed by the Holy Spirit, and led by the light of Christ. As you live in that promise, you bear that same light to the world.

As we focus on this theme of “A Light to Lead the Way” in Advent and Christmas, remember your baptism! If your baptismal birthday falls during this season, celebrate God’s light in your life.
